Ik woon in Amsterdam en ben werkzaam als tandarts. 2022 wordt een bijzonder jaar; ik ga de grote uitdaging aan, ik ga de New York City Marathon rennen!

Nog nooit eerder heb ik zo’n grote afstand gelopen. 42,195 kilometers! Ik ben sportief – vaak in de sportschool te vinden – echter hardlopen doe ik maar zo nu en dan. Toen mij gevraagd werd of ik dit jaar ook mee wilde doen moest ik daar even over nadenken. “Ik ben hier toch nog helemaal niet klaar voor? Ik geloof het bijna zelf niet, ga ik dit echt doen?” Met nog 8 maanden te gaan moet ik flink aan de slag. Dat het een jaar vol zwoegen, hard trainen en afzien wordt? Jazeker. Dat ik veel fantastische momenten ga beleven en veel geld op ga halen voor het KWF Kankerbestrijding? Zeker weten!

Ik kijk nu al enorm uit naar het moment dat ik over de finish van de New York City Marathon loop en terug kan kijken op een bijzonder jaar en avonturen samen met de andere ‘Run for Life’ renners.

Iedereen kent wel iemand in zijn naaste omgeving die te maken heeft (gehad) met deze verschrikkelijke ziekte. Het is belangrijk dat er meer geld beschikbaar komt voor het onderzoek naar kanker zodat nieuwe en betere behandelingen de overlevingskans voor patiënten kunnen vergroten.

Een steentje bijdragen aan de bestrijding van kanker in combinatie met een sportief uitdagende prestatie in teamverband: Het belooft een onvergetelijke ervaring te worden.
