“Hoi iedereen, ik ben Marijke, 35 jaar en ik kom uit Utrecht en dit jaar ben ik één van de deelnemers van het Run for Life Team 2023! De New York City Marathon staat al jaren op mijn bucketlist en dit jaar is het eindelijk zo ver. In 2019 heb ik de Berlijn marathon gelopen dus ik heb al een klein beetje ervaring maar New York City is de droom!

Ik heb het geluk dat ik gezond ben en deze kans kan aangrijpen, maar helaas is dat voor mijn moeder anders. Zij heeft begin maart dit jaar de diagnose kanker te horen gekregen, ze is meteen geopereerd maar er zijn veel uitzaaiingen en we leven nu met heel veel onzekerheid over wat de toekomst zal brengen.

Ik vind het waardevol om geld op te halen voor meer onderzoek en nog betere behandelingen. Daarom haal ik voor KWF Kankerbestrijding geld op om een klein steentje bij te kunnen dragen aan de kosten van meer onderzoek naar kanker zodat anderen in de toekomst nog beter geholpen kunnen worden.

In 12 jaar tijd hebben 221 renners met ons meegelopen, een geweldige prestatie! Hierop voortbouwend gaan we in 2023 voor de 13de keer met een nieuw team maar met dezelfde toewijding voor ons doel.

In 1949, het oprichtingsjaar van KWF Kankerbestrijding, was slechts 25% van de kankerpatiënten 5 jaar na de diagnose nog in leven. Dit percentage is sindsdien gestegen naar 65%. Een mooi resultaat, maar er is nog een lange weg van veel onderzoek te gaan.
