“Hey, ik ben Donny lens en in het dagelijks leven run ik een ontstoppingsbedrijf.

Mijn gezin bestaat uit mijn verloofde Quirine en mijn 2 prachtige zoontjes Loïc en Léon. Vanaf mijn 4de tot nu heb ik altijd gevoetbald maar ik voelde dat het tijd was voor iets anders, ik zocht een nieuwe uitdaging en waarom niet het lopen van een marathon?

Ondertussen heb ik (19 maart jongstleden) de marathon in Rome uitgelopen. Dit als voorbereiding voor de New York City Marathon. Een nieuwe uitdaging dat niet van vandaag op morgen gerealiseerd kan worden. Ik loop deze marathon ook niet zomaar. Ik wil dit ook doen om mijn steun te kunnen geven aan KWF Kankerbestrijding.

De mama van mijn verloofde heeft namelijk al jaren de vreselijke ziekte kanker. Wij als familie hebben gezien dat niet alleen het mentale, fysieke maar ook het financiële aspect zeer zwaar is. Daarom vind ik het des te belangrijker dat er geld wordt ingezameld voor KWF Kankerbestrijding.

Ik wil samen met het Run for Life Team 2023 zoveel mogelijk geld op halen voor onderzoeken, voorlichting en patiëntenondersteuning.

Dit kan ik niet alleen en daarom vraag ik jullie om steun. Ga jij mij hierbij steunen? Dan ga ik graag de strijd aan en zet ik me 100% in voor de New York City Marathon!”

In 12 jaar tijd hebben 221 renners met ons meegelopen, een geweldige prestatie! Hierop voortbouwend gaan we in 2023 voor de 13de keer met een nieuw team maar met dezelfde toewijding voor ons doel.

In 1949, het oprichtingsjaar van KWF Kankerbestrijding, was slechts 25% van de kankerpatiënten 5 jaar na de diagnose nog in leven. Dit percentage is sindsdien gestegen naar 65%. Een mooi resultaat, maar er is nog een lange weg van veel onderzoek te gaan.
